Montana Knife Handle
I designed a Knife handle for the Montana swing action blade, which is steel folded blade that is triple mounted by pins to the knife handle. While designing the Grip, I focused to understand what forces were in place while swinging this typology of knife mainly used by butchers to break through bones. Unlike other knifes, this blade is used in a swinging motion, which meant that I wanted to create a grip that has a perfect ergonomic adaption to the users hand. While researching the market for other knifes of a similar typology, I found that this would be one of the first of its kind to have a wooden grip and not a plastic one. The process started with sketches, moved to clay prototyping and ended with a technical drawing and 3d model, which is ready for production. The final step to production would be to mill the grip in a CNC machine as two halves and mount them to the side of the grip, with the three holes.
